This superb Renault Alpine GTA V6 Turbo EuropaCup offered for sale, was built on December 22nd 1986, according to its Certificate of Authenticity issued by Renault Sport's classic department. It was one of the last 8 assembled, from a total of 69 units.
History
From 1985 to 1988, the Alpine Europa Cup contested one-make races as a curtain raiser to the European F1 Grand Prix. Organised by Renault as part of its sporting promotion, the aim of this competition was to promote sales of the GTA, same as they did two decades earlier to promote the R8 Gordini.
The car offered is a chassis number 20990, purchased new by German driver Franz Fuchs, who raced it during the 1987 and 1988 seasons. During the first season, Fuchs scored a fine 4th place at Monza (6 September) and 10th overall. In the second, he had to make do with 12th place at the end of the season. The file that accompanies this car contains numerous period photos of the vehicle as well as press articles.
The car was later sold to a private Belgian owner who never used it and later sold it to the current owner.
After more than 20 years of inactivity, a lot of work was needed. The owner turned to specialist Patrick Legeay to get the job done. Nearly €20,000 worth of engine restoration/preparation bills and various reconditioning operations followed. Details of all this work can be found in the file that will come with the car.
After replacing the components that were no longer valid for safe competition (seats, harness, fire extinguisher, roll bar) and carrying out extensive research into the history of the #20990 car, the PTHN was obtained in April 2014 (JR period, 1983 to 1990). The car took part in the 2015 and 2016 Challenge Asavé GT Tourisme seasons.
Its current specification is as follows: steel monocoque chassis, polyester bodywork, 267bhp V6 PRV engine, McPherson front and rear suspension, Renix fuel injection, wet sump, UN1 5-speed gearbox, Girling brakes front and rear, steel roll cage...
